Cooking without a recipe is a great talent to have -- especially when it comes to making dinner on the fly. If you know how to sear, fry, saute or grill, cooking anything from scratch is no problem for you. But even if you've never cooked without a recipe, it's not that difficult to try. We've put together a slideshow of 20 recipes that have no recipe. There are only instructions and ingredients with a few amounts listed. In most cases the amounts are up to your personal taste, for example, the amount of garlic, chile flakes, salt or pepper. If a dish needs a lot of oil, we mention it, but in most cases all you need is a drizzle for sauteing or searing. And when you're making a salad dressing, we give you the ratio, for example 3:1 means 3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar.
Forget about recipes from this point on -- start cooking without them and you'll see how much more creative you can be.
