And the nominations are in! The buzz surrounding the Teen Choice Awards has barely died down, and MTV has already announced the nominations for the Video Music Awards, coming up September 6.

And yes, One Direction will be performing at the show.

"I think performing the VMA is such a huge occasion, we're really looking forward to it. I think it'll be one of the best performances we've done so far," Liam told MTV.

The band also scooped up two nominations -- Best New Artist and Best Pop Video, both for their smash hit "What Makes You Beautiful" -- although that should hardly come as a surprise. They made history as the first British band to debut at the top of the U.S. charts, have over 500,000 blogs on Tumblr dedicated to their fandom, and might even perform at the Olympics closing ceremony. After practical world domination, the VMAs should be a piece of cake.

Niall, Zayn, and the band's Twitter account all excitedly tweeted about the news. "Wow!! Been nominated for 2 VMA's!! You can vote for us by clicking this link http//t.co/1E8yqAcQ Thankyou Guys Love You all! :) x," Zayn chirped.

In other nominations, Rihanna and Drake are tied for the most nominations with five each. Arguably the most prestigious award, Video of the Year, could go to Katy Perry, Gotye, Rihanna, Drake or M.I.A. In addition to 1D, fan favorites fun., Carly Rae Jepsen, Frank Ocean and The Wanted are also up for Best New Artist.

After the nominations were announced, the boys of 1D weren't the only stars to share their excitement on Twitter. Click through the slideshow below to see which nominated celebs tweeted the exciting news to their fans!
