Sir Elton John didn't end up performing at the royal wedding last year -- even after much speculation that he would -- but he did serenade another bride and groom this past weekend.

His performance -- near Calgary, Canada -- was arranged by the groom as a surprise for his bride in exchange for a stipend and a "sizeable" donation to John's AIDS foundation, reports the Calgary Herald.

John is touring in Ontario, Canada in early September and around the U.S. later that month.

Another of John's wedding performances drew the ire of many in 2010, when the openly gay singer accepted $1 million to perform at conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh's wedding.
