Colorado governor John Hickenlooper and his wife of 10 years, Helen Thorpe, announced their “amicable” separation this week in what just may be the nicest divorce statement ever.
"After years of marriage that have added tremendous love and depth to both of our lives, we have decided to separate," the joint statement read. “We intend to continue functioning as a family that spends a great deal of time together. In fact, we will embark on our annual family vacation together this week, share meals often, and plan to spend holidays together."
Hickenlooper and his ex aren't the first famous pair to veer from the traditional, "we're divorcing, it's amicable, we still love each other" route. Click through the slides below to read more from Hickenlooper's divorce statement and four other surprising announcements.

Sinead O'Connor
After failing to <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/04/sinead-oconnor-barry-herridge-back-together-divorce-reunite-twitter_n_1183038.html" target="_hplink">revive her two-week marriage to Barry Herridge</a>, singer Sinead O'Connor took to her official website in January 2012 to declare her marriage officially over. O'Connor's <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2086125/Sinead-OConnor-announces-marriage-AGAIN.html" target="_hplink">oddball announcement</a> included an appeal to fans to send her adult toys and a special message to her haters.
"I'm gonna be me," <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2086125/Sinead-OConnor-announces-marriage-AGAIN.html" target="_hplink">O'Connor wrote.</a> "And if anyone doesn't like that they can seek therapy. Because I am wonderful. Exactly as I am. As Bridget Jones would say."
Novelist Robert Olen Butler
When Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Robert Olen Butler's wife Elizabeth Dewberry left him for media mogul Ted Turner, he <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/01/AR2007080102502.html" target="_hplink">sent a mass email to his colleagues at Florida State University</a> detailing the breakup in all its gory details.
"Put down your cup of coffee or you might spill it. Elizabeth is leaving me for Ted Turner," <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/01/AR2007080102502.html" target="_hplink">Butler wrote</a>, before heading into TMI-territory by detailing her inability to "step out of the shadow" of his Pulitzer win and her relationship with the "avowedly non-monogamous" Turner.
Butler's missive went viral and NPR deemed it the <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/01/AR2007080102502.html" target="_hplink">"e-mail of the week, if not the year."</a>

Tony Parker
Tony Parker didn't aim for originality when he announced his split from Eva Longoria to his fans. The basketball star simply copy and pasted the tweet <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/19/celebrity-divorce-tweets-_n_811357.html#s226357&title=Eva_Longoria" target="_hplink">Longoria had already sent out to her followers</a>. Good thing that he remembered to switch the names!
"It is with great sadness that after 7 years together, Eva and I have decided to divorce," <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/19/celebrity-divorce-tweets-_n_811357.html#s226370&title=Tony_Parker" target="_hplink">Parker's tweet and Facebook post read</a>. "We love each other deeply and pray for each other's happiness.
