It was a mysterious murder-suicide that rocked a community when a father shot and killed his 22-year old son and then himself. The story of Ed Daou and his son Andrew unfolded on "Behind Mansion Walls" (Thu., 9 p.m. ET on ID), revealing what the investigators were able to deduce as to Ed's motive for killing his son and himself.
While there was evidence of domestic violence in the house, Ed loved his son. What came out during their investigation was that 22-year old Andrew was a cancer survivor. He was in remission, but traces of his cancer had returned.
Ed told his estranged wife Carmen that if Andrew's cancer returned, he would shoot his son to put him out of his misery, and then shoot himself. Presumably, this is what Ed did.
Tragically, though, an autopsy revealed that Andrew was still fully cancer-free at the time of his death. He was a few weeks away from a screening that would have revealed that to him and his family.
