Cristina Saralegui wants everyone to know that Barack Obama is the right choice for the Latino community come November.
The Cuban-born talk show host, who announced her endorsement of the President back in June, is starring in a new Spanish-language ad called "Muchísimo" (Spanish for "a lot"), in which the Latina Oprah defends Obama's record against charges that he has done nothing during his four years in office. Saralegui points to Obama's health care law, the death of Osama Bin Laden, and low interest rates for student loans as some of Obama's successes.
“It makes me laugh when some say President Obama hasn’t done anything. Really?" the Latina Oprah says in the new video, which according to Fox News Latino will air in the battleground states of Colorado, Florida, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia.
"He helped us avoid an economic depression," Saralegui says. "He passed a health law that guarantees our access to a doctor’s care. He eliminated Osama bin Laden and brought our troops back from Iraq. So, then, what has Obama done? A lot!” she says.
The 64-year-old Spanish-language talk show host ends the video, saying, "Pa'lante" (Forward).
This isn't the first time Saralegui records an endorsement video for the Obama administration. Last month, Saralegui taped her first video for Obama for America, aimed at Hispanic voters.
"I came to this country when I was 12 years old, because my parents wanted to give me new opportunity to succeed. With their support and a lot of hard work, I was able to pursue my dreams," Saraelgui said in the video, adding that Barack Obama has the Latino community's best interest at heart. “President Obama wants everyone to have the chance I had. That’s why he’s working to put healthcare and a good education within reach of all Americans,” she said.
Originally from Cuba, Saralegui came to the U.S. with her family when she was 12 years-old. Often referred to as the "Latina Oprah," she became a household name with her Miami-based Spanish-language talk show, "El Show de Cristina," where she hosted guests including Selena, Shakira, Ricky Martin, Gloria Trevi and other big names in the entertainment business.
Her empire includes her talk show, which has won 11 Emmys and an estimated 100 million viewers worldwide, a Miami television studio, Casa Cristina, a furniture line, an upcoming clothing line and her own magazine Cristina La Revista according to TIME magazine.
Saralegui was named one TIME Magazine's "25 most influential Hispanics in America" in 2005.
Saralegui added that this election won't just affect Latinos right now, but will have an impact on Latinos "for generations to come." She also urged the Latino community to get registered to vote and talk to friends and neighbors about the election. “Make sure they are ready to make their voices heard on Nov. 6," she said.
As reported by Politico.com, the Obama campaign has made a huge investment in Spanish-language TV and radio, spending $3.6 million on ads, while the Romney camp has spent $521,000.
