The tennis semifinals took center stage on Day 7 of the 2012 London Summer Olympics as Serena Williams overwhelmed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in women's singles. The Wimbledon champion will play first-time Olympian Maria Sharapova, who beat her Russian teammate Maria Kirilenko, for the gold on Saturday in the tennis finals.

For the men, Switzerland's Roger Federer overcame Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina in the singles tennis semifinals, clinching at least the silver medal. He's face either Novak Djokovic of Serbia or Andy Murray of Britain in final matchup for the gold on Sunday.

U.S. beach volleyball players Jennifer Kessy and April Ross advanced to the next round after defeating Switzerland 21-15, 21-19.

In soccer, the U.S. women's team are heading to the semifinals following Friday's 2-0 defeat of New Zeland. Abby Wambach scored the first goal of the game, celebrating with a cartwheel, and Sydney Leroux, the youngest player on the team, threw in another one for good measure in the 87th minute of the matchup.

Friday's events include qualifying rounds in basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, diving, equestrian, field hockey, handball, rowing, sailing, soccer, table tennis, tennis, volleyball and water polo -- plus medal events in archery, badminton, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, judo, shooting, swimming, track and field and weightlifting.
