Mitt Romney On Jobs Report: Unemployment Rate Increase Is A 'Hammer Blow' To The Middle Class

Mitt Romney reacted to the monthly jobs report Friday in a predictable negative light. He called the one-tenth of a percentage point increase in the unemployment rate to 8.3 percent a "hammer blow to struggling middle-class families."

He ignored that jobs rose in the report. The growth of 163,000 jobs is the strongest since February.

The candidate released a new white paper Thursday touting his plan and suggesting that he would create 250,000 jobs per month. But, as Jon Ward reported, "the paper was less actuarial work with raw data and specific numbers, however, and more of an economic philosophy argument based largely on the premise that simply by undoing much of what President Obama has done since taking office, the economy would recover at a faster pace than it has been from the recession that began in late 2008."
