The Internet was abuzz on Monday with details of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's recent trip to Malawi, but not for political reasons.

According to The Hill, America's Queen Bee may have received a stinging farewell when a swarm of bees descended on her detail at Kamuzu International Airport.

The U.S. State Department and Malawian media reported different versions of the event. The Malawi Voice claimed that "the bees caused panic among the Americans." When BuzzFeed reached out to the State Department for comment, however, a spokeswoman denied such reports, saying there was "no panic or fleeing at all."

Clinton's trip marked the first visit by a U.S. secretary of state to Malawi, and the first visit by a high-ranking U.S. official since 1991. Joyce Banda recently took over as the country's president after the death of Bingu Wa Mutharika in April. Clinton reportedly was pleased to meet with Banda, who has been "keen to differentiate herself from her predecessor," the Associated Press writes.
