House Tour: Dana Benoit and Steve Johnson's Palm Springs Midcentury Tract Home Remodel

Posted: Updated:

California couple Dana Benoit and Steve Johnson, a principal of MDA Johnson Favaro Architecture and Urban Design set out to pay homage to the designers of the 1959 tract home in Palm Springs, California they purchased as a retreat from Los Angeles. The property is one of 2,500 by William Krisel and Dan Palmer built by the Alexander Construction Company in this desert area. In this house tour brought to use by our friends at California Home + Design, we see the end result of Benoit and Johnson's hard work restoring and updating this mid-century home.

This home's interiors are intentionally sparse and simple in order to draw the eye outwards through the large glass windows, allowing the homeowners and guests to feel connected to the outdoor environment. To achieve this effect, the couple chose a mostly white color palette with a few bold pops of color and curated a mix of mid-century and modern sculptural furniture. The exterior is an extension of the indoor open floor plan, and the grid-like slab patio surrounding a pristine pool offers a great place to entertain.
