Sikh Temple Shooting In Wisconsin Prompts NYPD To Increase Security At NYC Sikh Temples (VIDEO)

Following the deadly mass shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin on Sunday, the NYPD has added security around Sikh Temples in New York City as a precautionary measure against any possible violence.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said, "There is no known threat against Sikh temples in New York City, however, the coverage is being put in place out of an abundance of caution."

The increased coverage included the deployment of Critical Response Vehicles to patrol areas around temples.

The Sikh community has been in deep mourning since Sunday's shooting that killed seven people, including the shooter, who has now been identified as 40-year old former Army soldier Wade Michael Page.

President Obama released a statement expressing his sadness to the Wisconsin shooting and ensured, "My Administration will provide whatever support is necessary to the officials who are responding to this tragic shooting and moving forward with an investigation. As we mourn this loss which took place at a house of worship, we are reminded how much our country has been enriched by Sikhs, who are a part of our broader American family."

The move by the NYPD comes just weeks after the department added security presence at city theaters screening "The Dark Knight" the deadly Aurora, Colorado shooting at a midnight screening of the film.
