Security forces and rebel fighters clashed again on Monday in Syria's largest city, Aleppo. Reuters reports that Syrian army tanks and helicopter gunships pounded rebel positions. The opposition reportedly is struggling to maintain control of its holdings in the city.

Fighting in Aleppo has raged for three weeks, and the city's residents are facing increasing food and fuel shortages. "We have hardly any power or water, our wives and kids have left us here to watch the house and have gone somewhere safer," Jumaa, a 45-year-old construction worker, told Reuters.

The Associated Press published a series of photos that captures the devastation in and around the embattled city. Pictures out of Syria are difficult to come by, as the Assad regime severely restricts coverage of the conflict.
