A North Miami man was arrested Friday in the animal cruelty case of a dog named Bentley, whose back is raw and scarred with second-and-third-degree burns from a homemade health remedy.

Witvil Florvil, 29, was charged with animal cruelty by North Miami Police and booked on a $5,000 bond, NBC 6 reports.

Though named Bentley by his owner, the 1-year-old Boxer-Shar Pei mix was temporarily dubbed "Courage" by Miami-Dade Animal Services. He was discovered with severe burns all across his back and on top of his head on July 10 by a neighbor named Tim, CBS Miami reports. VIEW GRAPHIC PHOTOS BELOW.

“When I initially saw the dog I thought it was probably hurt by running over by a car or something,” Tim told CBS Miami. “I didn’t know that somebody actually did something to it.

According to a police report, Florvil attempted to treat an apparent dog bite by putting a concoction of 500 mg of the antibiotic Ampicillin, baby powder, green rubbing alcohol and dog shampoo on the wound.

Though Bentley's condition worsened into a visible severe burn more than 20 inches long, Florvil did not render aid, according to police. The report states that Florvil admitted he did nothing despite Bentley's injuries lasting more than 5-10 days, and even though he knew Bentley was suffering because the dog was crying and having trouble walking.

Bentley is currently in the care of Noah’s Arks Animal Rescue in South Carolina.

According to Noah's Arks, Bentley is on pain medications for the burns, but his life is more threatened by a dangerous case of Tetanus stemming from an old bite on his leg. He is also showing neurological issues and a sensitivity to light which requires him to wear sunglasses.

Staff say Bentley is already more relaxed and calm, and hope he’ll be fully recovered in about a month.
