Fox News Host Alisyn Camerota Defends Patriotic Olympic Uniform Segment (VIDEO)

WATCH: Fox News Host Defends Controversial Segment

Fox News host Alisyn Camerota defended a segment she hosted last week that questioned if Team USA's uniforms were patriotic enough.

Following Gabby Douglas' gold medal performance in the women's gymnastics individual all-around competition in London, Camerota and her guest David Webb wondered why the athlete chose to wear a hot pink leotard instead of one donning stars, stripes, red, white, and/or blue.

"You know, Gabby had that great moment, and everyone was so excited, and she's in hot pink -- and that's her prerogative," Camerota said. Webb, who hosts a program on Sirius/XM's "Patriot" channel, likened the selection to a "kind of soft anti-American feeling that Americans can't show their exceptionalism."

The segment went viral and was later mocked on Tuesday's "Colbert Report." Camerota appeared on her colleague Brian Kilmeade's radio show on Wednesday, and responded to the criticism. Camerota took Colbert's response in stride, saying that the segment was the "kicker of the show" and that she and her guest "were also having some fun."

She added that the segment was based on David Sirota's Salon article that Camerota said focused on how Team USA's uniforms seemed to be "tamped down."

"But of course all of that is thrown out the window and it makes it seem like I'm not satisfied with Gabby Douglas," Camerota said while laughing.

"By the way, they would not have a show if it there was no Fox News. Between 'The Daily Show' and 'Colbert Report,' they don't even write anything. They just watch TV up until 3 o'clock," Kilmeade said.

"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" Camerota aasked.

"I'm just pointing out that they're pointing out the kicker story between 1 and 3 on Friday. Correct? Was it Friday?"
