'Hulk' TV Series: Guillermo Del Toro Says A Writer Is Needed

Hulk could still smash TV. Guillermo del Toro told Collider that he and Marvel are still working on a TV series about the big, mean, green smashing machine.

"I had one meeting with Marvel after 'Avengers' and we had a very, very good chat," del Toro told Collider. "We have a writer that we want to bring on board, a very, very concrete name. I can’t reveal it, but we want to wait for that writer. It's a writer who is otherwise engaged. So right now we are in a holding pattern until that writer becomes free. Then we're going to do a new draft of the script."

News of a new ABC TV series starring the Hulk first broke in 2010. Del Toro and "Battlestar Galactica" veteran David Eick planned to shape the project with Eick writing and Del Toro directing. Del Toro was to also oversee the designs of the character. According to TheWrap, the series about the Hulk could hit in the 2013-2014 season.

Since Disney bought Marvel and Jeph Loeb became head of Marvel TV, various projects have been in development. "AKA Jessica Jones," a TV series about a former superhero who becomes a private eye, had a script from Melissa Rosenberg, but ABC passed on the series in May 2012.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" mastermind Joss Whedon helmed "Avengers" and recently signed on to write and direct the second installment. As part of the new deal with Marvel, Whedon will also help develop an ABC TV show set in "The Avengers" world. No word on whether or not that's the Hulk show with del Toro attached.
