The White House talked with former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger about a possible cabinet position in the Obama administration halfway through the president's first term, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

The discussion came as the actor-turned-moderate-Republican-politician was moving out of the governor's mansion in Sacramento, where he served seven years after replacing his predecessor in a recall election.

Schwarzenegger, who will be returning to the big screen with the release of "The Expendables 2" next week, has not been shy about his political aspirations.

In a July 2008 interview on ABC's "This Week," Schwarzenegger told host George Stephanopoulos that he would pick up the phone if then-presidential contender Barack Obama rang him about an energy-related cabinet position.

Schwarzenegger, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Austria, has also said he would pursue the presidency if the Constitution permitted it.
