Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) argued on Saturday that "political correctness has to stop" and turned to recent controversy surrounding Chick-Fil-A to make his case.
The AP reports that Perry made the comments while speaking at an event hosted by The Family Leader, an Iowa-based conservative group, in the Hawkeye State, according to his prepared remarks.
Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy ignited a firestorm of controversy last month when he said his company supports "the biblical definition of the family unit" on the issue of gay marriage.
"When conservatives are offended by a corporate policy, we simply choose not to give them our business," explained Perry, according to the AP. He continued that when it comes to liberals, they "try to keep everyone else from giving them business."
On a different front, the Des Moines Register reports that Perry also weighed in on Mitt Romney's choice to name Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) his vice presidential running mate during his trip to Iowa.
"Paul Ryan is a very capable individual," he said. "He helped us as we were putting together our economic package."
The Texas governor signaled he's not "disappointed" that Romney didn't pick him to join the Republican presidential ticket. "Ive got a good gig," he said.
