'Nightmare Next Door': Grandmother Murdered While Hanging Christmas Decorations

80-year old Billie Cunningham was no threat to anyone. The mother and grandmother was hanging Christmas decorations in her home when she was brutally attacked and killed. "Nightmare Next Door" (Sun., 9 p.m. ET on ID), told her story, as well as the surprise that her killer was apparently a young neighbor.

Justin Stephens eventually confessed to the Cunningham murder, but police weren't buying his claims of it being a case of a robbery gone wrong. His aunt testified that she'd heard him talking in his sleep about killing an elderly woman.

It was a brutal crime scene that didn't match his story of a botched robbery. Cunningham was certainly no physical threat to the much younger man, so if he'd not wanted to harm her, he could have simply fled.

Cunningham's son wanted an eye for an eye for his mother's killer. "It’s just too bad he wasn’t sentenced in Texas, because they have the death penalty," he said.

Stephens was sentenced to life in prison, though his lawyer has filed for an appeal.

"Nightmare Next Door" reveals shocking true crimes every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on ID.
