Paul Ryan Heckled During Campaign Stop In Iowa (VIDEO)

DES MOINES, Iowa — Republican Paul Ryan says President Barack Obama is diminishing the future for the nation's children.

The Wisconsin congressman commented during his first solo campaign swing as the GOP vice presidential candidate, a tour of the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.

Obama also was campaigning in Iowa, where he started a three-day bus tour.

Ryan did not address the drought affecting the heartland. He also took no questions about his desire to transform Medicare into a voucher-like system.

But he jabbed at Obama, accusing the president of trying to weaken work requirements for welfare recipients.

Hecklers repeatedly tried to interrupt Ryan's brief speech. One protester climbed on stage and was dragged away by police.

As Ryan worked to carry on through the protesters' cries, he accused them of lacking civility.

“You know what? It’s funny. It’s funny because Iowans and Wisconsinites, we like to be respectful of one another and peaceful with one another and listen to one another," Ryan said. "These ladies must not be from Iowa and Wisconsin."

The Omaha World-Herald reports that Romney supporters attempted to block a man yelling “Stop the war on the middle class” throughout Ryan's speech. The struggle got physical, and one protestor reportedly suffered a minor cut, apparently from a Romney campaign sign.

According to Politico, Romney staffers also accused the hecklers of getting violent.

“She just punched one of our volunteers,” a staffer told a law enforcement officer as a female protester was being removed from the stage area.
