Jennifer Aniston and boyfriend Justin Theroux dropped a bombshell Sunday night when it was confirmed that they were engaged. However, what surprised some insiders the most was the way the couple broke the news.

“This was very much Justin taking the lead. Usually when two celebrities get engaged, they issue a joint statement saying how happy they are. But what was so interesting about this was it was Justin’s camp that made the announcement,” one insider involved with breaking the news tells me.

Not only did Justin’s people break the news before Jennifer’s rep, but the timing of the proposal was also very interesting. With the rumors that Aniston's ex-husband, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie were getting married this weekend -- which they did not -- some have suggested that Justin and Jen got engaged last weekend to rain on their parade.

“That is absolutely not true. Jennifer doesn’t follow gossip at all. She doesn’t tweet or have any interest in social media, so she probably didn’t even know about the wedding rumors. Plus, Justin proposed on his birthday, which is a date that has nothing to do with Brad or Angelina,” a source close to Jennifer tells me. “She is happier than I have ever seen her and so is he. It’s not easy dating one of the most famous people in the world.”

No date has been set for either wedding.
