It was a case that went cold for a very long time on "Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets" (Mon., 9 p.m. ET on ID). Just 30-years-old, Kim Dunkin never returned from a New Year's Eve party. She left behind a husband, a son and a daughter who would grow up with no memories of her mother.
It was more than a decade later before authorities could arrest anyone for her murder. Kim was found dead in her car. She'd been shot in the head.
When an informant came forward, he named a pastor, Brad Ballantyne, as the killer. The pastor later confessed to the crime, saying he was a different person back then.
According to his confession, he'd noticed Kim had a lot of money at a convenience store, and so he followed her. When she got angry at him confronting her, he killed her. Ballantyne pleaded guilty and is serving a 25-year sentence for her murder.
True crime stories unfold ever Monday at 9 p.m. ET on ID's "Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets."
