Nintendo Controller Coffee Table Doubles As Functional Controller

LOOK: Glass Coffee Table Is Video Game Controller

Designers at a small shop in Venice, Calif. are selling a coffee table that looks like the original Nintendo controller.

Cool idea. Oh, and also, the game controller, made by Bohemian Work Bench, actually works. When the glass on the top of table is removed, a retractable cord from underneath can be plugged in and you're free to play everything from "Super Mario Bros. 3" to "RBI Baseball."

Though the group began with a $1,950 table that stuck to the original controller's color scheme and lacked functionality, the new design features natural tones of maple, mahogany and walnut woods and is priced at $3,700 on the group's Etsy store.

Bohemian Work Bench isn't the first to combine coffee tables with gameplay. One DIY designer from Australia created a table complete with a storage box for games underneath. That design is currently not available for purchase.

Though the controller functionality is an interesting twist, some may find the exaggerated controller size to be a burden for certain games. Demonstrations of the product have shown two people sharing the controller, an experience that may prove to be more frustrating than friendly for more serious gamers. Still, it's the latest integration of design and technology that's sure to be a conversation piece in your home. That is, if you can fit it in the living room with your multimedia sofa and the reclining chair with surround sound.
