WATCH: Torii Hunter Injures Umpire

A scary moment occurred in the fifth inning of the Angels-Indians game on Wednesday night when Torii Hunter took out the home plate umpire as he tried to score.

Trying to score from first on a double by Kendry Morales, Hunter accidentally clipped home plate umpire Greg Gibson in the face with his left cleat while sliding across home. Hunter was trying to beat out a throw from third baseman Jack Hannahan, who ended up with the ball after right fielder Shin-Soo Choo's relay toss missed the cutoff man.

The call couldn't be made right away though as Gibson immediately fell to the ground face-first and laid there while Hunter hovered over him and called for help.

Fortunately, Gibson was able to get up under his own power but had to leave the game. According to the Associated Press, he received several stitches on a cut around his left eye and was taken to a hospital for precautionary X-rays.

Hunter told Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com after the game that he talked to Gibson and said he wanted to stay in the game.

"He was cracking jokes [on the field], too"," Hunter said following the Angels' 8-4 victory. "He wanted to stay in. Too much blood, though."
