Director Ridley Scott has halted production of "The Counselor" in the wake of his brother Tony Scott's death.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Ridley has suspended shooting of "The Counselor," a film about a lawyer who gets involved in the drug trafficking business, after his brother Tony committed suicide on Sunday by jumping from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles.

Ridley had been shooting "The Counselor" in London when he received news of his brother's death. He halted shooting for the week and got on a plane bound for L.A. to be with his family.

"I can confirm that Tony Scott has passed away. The family asks that their privacy is respected at this time," Tony's spokesman, Simon Halls, said in a statement Monday, according to Fox News.

Ridley and Tony Scott were renowned for both their directorial success in Hollywood and their deep bond. The two put their names behind Scott Free, a production company which the brothers used to develop and produce a number of feature films and television programs.

Ridley's "The Counselor" boasts an all-star cast, including Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, John Leguizamo, Dean Norris and Rosie Perez.

It is scheduled for a Nov. 2013 release.

As law enforcement officials continue to investigate Tony's death, his family and the film industry mourn his passing.

Tom Cruise starred in one of the director's most popular films, the 1986 blockbuster "Top Gun." Cruise and Scott had been scouting locations for a "Top Gun 2" and the script was reportedly near finalized, according to The Telegraph.

Cruise released a statement about the loss of his colleague and friend, saying: "Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him. He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable. My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time."
