Matt Barber Of Liberty Counsel: Polygamy And Incest Are 'Inevitable' If Gay Marriage Is Approved

Anti-Gay Pundit: Polygamy And Incest Are 'Inevitable' If Gay Marriage Passes

Another right-wing pundit has fired off on supporters of same-sex marriage, claiming that polygamy and incest are subsequently "inevitable" if marriage equality is achieved in the U.S.

Right Wing Watch reported that Matt Barber of the Christian conservative group Liberty Counsel spoke out against the fight on the Aug. 22 installment of "Faith and Freedom."

"People can't marry children, people can't marry close relatives, people can't marry their favorite pet...polygamy is still illegal, that's the law of the land," Barber noted. "If we're going to break the institution of marriage and radically redefine it, what possible limitations can we place? Then the next radical special interest group is going to say, 'We need marriage, too!"

He went on to note, "Polygamy is inevitable if same-sex marriage becomes the law of the land...we can no longer have prohibitions on incestuous marriage if they break the institution of natural marriage."

Of course, Barber's stance is hardly surprising given his known opposition not just to same-sex marriage but also other lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights. In November 2011, he suggested that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) protects children from contracting HIV/AIDS.

"Children who are raised in a lesbian or gay household are eight times more likely to engage in the homosexual lifestyle themselves," Barber said at the time, according to On Top Magazine. "And that's terrible when you consider that the [Center for Disease Control] has found that one out of five adolescent and men engaged in the homosexual lifestyle are HIV positive. Forty percent of them don't even know it."
