Lois Goodman, U.S. Open Tennis Ref Charged With Murdering Husband With Coffee Mug, May Have Had Secret Romance

The U.S. Open tennis official accused of murdering her husband with a coffee mug reportedly cavorted with a secret Internet beau prior to the alleged killing.

Louis Ann Goodman, arrested Tuesday in Manhattan, was “communicating with a male individual through the Internet," according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by the New York Daily News.

“The content of the email suggests that Lois was terminating a relationship and that alternate sleeping arrangements should be made in Los Angeles,” a search warrant request by Detective Jeffrey Briscoe of the Los Angeles Police Department, the newspaper reports.

The 70-year-old line judge initially reported the April 17 death of her husband, 80-year-old Alan Goodman, as an accident, claiming that she found him unconscious in the couple's bed.

"She said she surmised he had fallen down the steps, had a heart attack and managed to get back upstairs to the bed," Lt. David Storaker told the Associated Press.

A coroner's report weeks later indicates that Alan Goodman did not stumble down the stairs.

The Goodmans' neighbors say that the suspect was so calm following the the discovery, she was not considered a suspect.

"It was a suspicious death from the beginning," Storaker said.

The couple was one month away from celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary, according to The New York Times.

If convicted, Goodman faces a potential life sentence.
