Obama Campaign Raises Money In Sweden [UPDATE]

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama has supporters all over the United States, but apparently he has a fan base in Sweden, too.

Matthew Barzun, Obama's campaign finance chairman, co-hosted a fundraiser in Stockholm on Thursday evening. The "Americans Abroad for Obama" reception was held at the home of Tracy McGee, according to a copy of the invitation. The entry fee was $450 per couple, $250 per individual.

The event technically was put on by the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee that supports the president's reelection and the Democratic National Committee.

A campaign spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the frequency of overseas fundraisers.

Obama and Mitt Romney have both raised money from overseas donors, but Obama has raised nearly twice the amount Romney has. An analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics found that the president has brought in at least $779,000 from donors outside the United States, while Romney has raised about $383,000.

UPDATE: 8:30 p.m. --

Obama campaign spokeswoman Katie Hogan said later that Barzun was not at the Stockholm fundraiser and never planned to go, despite his name being listed as a host.
