Rick Scott Withdrawing From Republican Convention Activities

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) is withdrawing from all activities at the upcoming Republican Convention as the Sunshine State braces for Tropical Storm Isaac, according to local station Bay News 9.

The news comes on the heels of Scott declaring a state of emergency for Florida. He was supposed to deliver a speech at the Republican Convention in Tampa on Monday night.

The AP reports:

The storm is now approaching the Florida Keys and it is expected to strengthen to a hurricane in coming days.

A hurricane warning had been issued for the Florida Keys, and officials warned tourists to leave. The storm likely won't hit Tampa head-on, but it could lash the city with rain and strong winds just as the convention ramps up.

Republican officials announced on Saturday that the beginning of the convention would be delayed. RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement, "Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th, exact time to follow."
