Jindal To Skip Republican Convention Due to Isaac

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) said on Monday that he will not attend the Republican National Convention in Tampa this week as Tropical Storm Isaac threatens the Gulf Coast.

"I will not be speaking or attending the Republican convention in Florida," Jindal said. "There is no time for politics here in Louisiana."

The AP reports:

Tropical Storm Isaac targeted a broad swath of the Gulf Coast on Monday and had New Orleans in its crosshairs, bearing down just ahead of the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

The potential for a landfall as a Category 1 hurricane as soon as Tuesday prompted evacuations along a wide area of the Gulf Coast and sent people out to stock up on staples.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) also pulled out of convention activities due to the storm.
