Jayson Werth Catch: Nationals Outfielder Makes Bizarre Barehanded Grab Against Phillies (VIDEO)

Any youth baseball and softball coaches who saw this unorthodox catch by Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth likely had the same thought: That's why you always use TWO HANDS!

Returning to Philadelphia this past weekend to play his former team for the first time since suffering a broken wrist against the Phillies back in May, Werth made what looked to be a lucky play when he bare-handed a fly ball in right field.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, Philadelphia's Chase Utley hit a fly ball to right field. Werth got under it, but whiffed on the catch with his glove hand. But somehow, the ball found its way into his bare right hand.

Was it luck? Some fundamental training coming through? Or perhaps a bit from Column A and some from Column B?

Unfortunately for Werth -- who vowed never let "[Phillies fans] walk down Broad Street in celebration again" after being heckled at Nationals Park -- that was all he was able to contribute over the three-game series. He went 2 for 12 with seven strikeouts as the Phillies swept the Nationals.
