'Major Crimes': Raydor Softens When Dealing With Runaway Foster Kid Rusty At Home (VIDEO)

'Major Crimes': Rusty Brings Out The Softer Side Of Raydor

Rusty, Rusty, Rusty. The kid's mere presence in "Major Crimes" (Mon., 9 p.m. ET on TNT) has been polarizing since the beginning. Introduced in the series finale of "The Closer," Rusty was one more thing left for Captain Raydor to pick up in the wake of Chief Johnson's abrupt departure.

With Kyra Sedgwick out the door and Mary McDonnell taking over the lead role, perhaps Rusty was brought in to add a softer side to Captain Raydor. As a foil for Johnson, she didn't need to be soft and cuddly, but as a series lead it might not be a bad idea.

The gambit is certainly working for some, with TV Fanatic saying that not only is Johnson's absence bringing the team together, but seeing Raydor and Rusty together is making them like the new boss more.

But a writer for Gather feels the whole thing seems a bit rushed. "The show is a little heavy handed trying to show that there's a reason for Raydor and Rusty. So far it's not that successful."

Tune in to see the softer side of Captain Raydor on "Major Crimes" every Monday at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.
