Tagg Romney Loves Alexandria's Dairy Godmother, Namechecks Incorrect Desserts (UPDATED)

WASHINGTON -- Who knew Mitt Romney's oldest son had such a thing for Northern Virginia desserts? Or that he'd choose the wrong desserts to like?

The Washington Examiner's Jenny Rogers reports that Tagg Romney told the Virginia delegation at the Republican National Convention that he's a fan of a stand-out local spot: The Dairy Godmother, in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood.

"It has got to be the best sorbet and yogurt that I've ever had in my life," he reportedly said.

Commenters to a Del Ray Patch story were unimpressed:

Ugh....too bad he doesn't like frozen custard. This is not an endorsement I'd be proud of, unfortunately.

Indeed, The Dairy Godmother is known not for its low-calorie frozen offerings, but for its rotating menu of rich, creamy frozen custards -- and slow, egalitarian service; even Obama and his daughters had to wait in line when they visited in 2009. (Obama, incidentally, ate vanilla custard with hot fudge and toasted almonds. Daughter Sasha had a brownie sundae with vanilla custard, while Malia had vanilla frozen custard in a cone.)

How much is The Dairy Godmother associated with custard? Check out its Custard Cam, an image, supposedly updated every 60 seconds, of the store's interior.

We wouldn't expect many of those images to show customers sticking to diets. But who knows -- the image seems to have last been updated on Aug. 18.

UPDATE: The Dairy Godmother has responded to Tagg Romney's yogurt comment on Twitter:
