Amazon announced on Thursday that the Kindle Fire has officially "sold out."

The company issued a press release stating its 7-inch, $200 tablet computer had "captured 22 percent of U.S. tablet sales" and is now no longer for sale on the Amazon site.

This new information added fuel to the latest fire burning in the rumor mill: That the next version of the Kindle Fire will be released at Amazon's media event on September 6th. Rumors of an updated tablet began circling blogs earlier this summer, with AllThingsD reporting in July that the new Fire will allegedly have a 1,280 X 800 display, similar to Google's Nexus 7 tablet.

The Kindle Fire was released November 15, 2011. Since then, it has earned over 10,000 5-star customer reviews making it "the number one best-selling product across the millions of items available on Amazon since its introduction 48 weeks ago," according to the per Amazon's press release.
