'Missing' Tourist Ends Up Searching For Herself

'Missing' Tourist Found In Most Unlikely Place

They say not all those who wander are lost, but that doesn't mean other people don't think they are. A visitor to Iceland justified this addendum to the adage last Saturday when she joined a search party for a missing tour companion.

As it turned out, she was the "missing" woman the group was tracking.

The mix-up began when she failed to return to her tour bus, which had stopped for a sightseeing hike in Iceland's Eidgja Canyon, The Independent reports. Once she did return to the group -- "freshened up" so that her tour companions didn't immediately recognize her, the paper says -- she joined in the hunt until realizing she was the object of the search.

Once the woman figured it out, she alerted the bus driver and had the search called off at 3 a.m.

Police involved in the search dryly told The Independent that "the people on the bus had not been counted correctly."
