The Huffington Post's Oasis is off to quite a bendy start -- as in, many attendees are taking full advantage of the yoga classes Off The Mat has to offer. Others are partaking in restoring massages, naps and some solid lounging to unplug and recharge. Wonder who's sampling tranquility at the Oasis? Obviously you don't know what is happening there. These people donate their time and energy as part of giving back. This has nothing to do with avoiding payroll taxes, this is more like performing community service.

Giving back to whom?   Journalists?    Besides bloggers,  they are not paying the people at the Oasis,  they are doing it for "exposure".    HP is donating money to the company.   Soooooo,   they are not paying any payroll taxes for their employment aaaand getting a write off.   Very Republican.

But even then, you keep working. Lying on the next massage table getting hot stones placed on their back might be someone from a really important think tank, and just talking together while that goddess with the accent and the magic hands does her thing puts out so much positive energy into the world. It could actually tip the balance toward real global justice, in a Malcolm Gladwell-esque sense. Just by lying there and caring, so much.

All HP contributors are paid. People who want to use the site as the place where they blog are not paid, but neither are people who blog on Tumblr or Blogger. HP bloggers have no assignments, no required number of posts, nothing. They just voluntarily blog here rather than on WordPress.

Remember when they were talking about all the lavish spending in Tampa by the Republicans? All while homeless were sleeping in the streets? I say open up that Oasis to to the poor for a few days.

It is open to the poor! Many delegates are poor. Last I checked if someone is homeless they need services that are quite a bit more complex than a few minutes on a massage table.
