Most grad school valedictorians receive a pat on the back upon finishing their thesis, or at best a stiff drink. They didn't have Frank Gehry in their fan base. According to Dezeen, Gehry recently donated $100,000 to the Southern California Institute of Architecture to award to the year's best graduate thesis projects.

The aptly dubbed "Gehry Prize" will be awarded on September 9 at the 2012 graduation ceremony. Although Gehry has been a SCI-Arc trustee for over 20 years, we wonder if his recent spurt in generosity has anything to do with his new job designing a new office for that little website called Facebook. Still though, we imagine it must be tough to remain in the shadow of architecture's reining Frank donor, Frank Lloyd Wright, who founded his own architecture school, Taliesin.

What do you think about Gehry's donation?
