Katie Holmes Makes Gorgeous Post-Divorce Debut, Speaks About Tom Cruise Split

Katie Holmes is looking better than ever.

Two months after splitting from Tom Cruise, Holmes made her post-divorce public debut in New York City on Wednesday evening, Us Weekly reported. The 33-year-old mother looked gorgeous in a black button-down and gold pleated skirt adorned with black beading when presenting Carolina Herrera with an award at the 2012 Design Awards at Lincoln Center.

With her hair pulled back into a chic ponytail, Holmes looked absolutely lovely (and quite at ease) for her first public appearance since divorcing Cruise.

Holmes opened up just a bit about her divorce from Cruise to Women's Wear Daily. The actress filed for divorce in June and ignited a media frenzy, which continued to flare fueled by allegations of wife-auditioning conducted by the Church of Scientology.

“I have a lot of feelings about the press,” she told WWD. “There are a lot of people with much bigger problems and who are less fortunate. I try to keep it all in perspective.”

The actress will make another big public appearance this week, showing her first collection for her fashion line Holmes & Yang at New York Fashion Week.

Holmes told People Style Watchthat her goal is to try new things while not “being afraid to fail." “Who cares?” she said. “At least you tried. It’s usually the people who haven’t tried who are the naysayers.”

She likely invoked that outlook after her split from Cruise, whom she married in 2006. Holmes reportedly has no regrets about leaving the "Mission Impossible" star.

“Katie is a new woman, she feels refreshed, free of Tom and doesn’t have a worry in the world,” a source told RadarOnline in early August. “Katie’s enjoying her independence and is working on herself right now... Now she has full control over what she wants to do and that freedom is exciting for her."
