Bread For Kids: How To Make The Cutest Loaves (PHOTOS)

You might not give bread much thought, but we do. We think about bread a lot. Sourdough, challah, no-knead, even nine-grain -- we're into it. Bread is the thankless workhorse of many of our meals. Sandwiches would not be possible without bread. There would be no French toast for breakfast. (Stop and reflect on that last sentence. Without bread, there would be no French toast!)

Aside from being uber-important, bread's got another trick up its sleeve. It knows how to get cute. That's right, bread can be shaped to look like teddy bears, baby birds, tiny turtles and more. You can't really compete with a teddy bear that you can eat.

Headline: Never seen bread like this before. How about Never SAW bread like this before. Just more proof of how far down the slide America's education system has gone. Friend sent an article and attached a note to his granddaughter who is in college. She called and thanked him for the article and then asked him was was on the accompanying paper. She couldn't read it because she had never learned cursive writing. How do kids sign documents these days?

Sadly, bread is made from processed grains. There is a large population of humans with celiacs and allergies to wheat. Children dont need to be filling up on empty calories. That is what bread is no matter how cute the presentation.

"Now," gluten-containing flours such as wheat have been genetically altered to *increase* the gluten content, solely because uneducated people like the fluffier results. So, in the last 5-10 years, gluten-sensitivity problems such as celiac have snowballed, and you can see proof of this for yourself in the enormous increase in gluten-free products in common grocery stores, now.

I taught my 10 and 12 year olds how to make a few different kinds of breads over the past year and they have become very adventurous in the kitchen. We have fresh bread 2-3 times a week now. They will have fun with some of these recipes, thanks.

Very nice. I use all organic ingredients in everything.  Bulk ingredients from the coops is the way to go for real food .We are also golden...

We just made our first loaf of potato bread and Elena had a blast making it. Anytime spent in the kitchen with your children preparing bread, cookies, or a simple meal is a memory worth making! We will have to try the little bear bread, they are just too cute!

They have so much fun and it seems that they completely forget about any of the usual "gadget activity".  They only gadgets that they use are the Kitchen Aid and some other kitchen tools.  Kneeding by hand will never be replaced fully by machines, aside from eating the goodies, hand kneeding is half of the fun.
