Rihanna's VMA 2012 Hair Is Seriously Short (PHOTOS)

Rihanna is a fashion wildcard, alternating between high fashion elegance and, well, this. But when she showed up for the 2012 MTV VMAs on Thursday night, she shocked us: she was the epitome of class.

The first thing we noticed, of course, was Rihanna's short hair, which she chopped off just a few days ago and officially debuted on Thursday's red carpet.

The 24-year-old's close-cropped 'do instantly reminded us of Halle Berry in the 2000s; in other words: we love it. As for the frock, her white tie-back gown is perfect glamour, like a Grammys dress or an Oscars dress, draping behind her as she strode into perform (and invariably change into a ton of other outfits.)

I'm pretty sure this is a wig. Her hair is such a mystery. I'm usually good at telling natural hair vs weaves. It's easy to tell where one's extensions start and their hair ends or the common fail of lace fron wigs, but I see a lot of pictures of her natural hair which is at the most past her jaw line and is cury where you can see from the root it's her real hair then out of no where its long and curly then two days later buzzed cut nobodys hair grow that damn fast so she's probably one of the few that get's shorter wigs. I guess when you think wig you assume it's always going to be longer than the hair you have now. But overall I'm so confussed I give up trying to figure out her hair. She's like the Hudini or styles

she never had long hair to begin with. she had a long weave. so all of this talk about her having it cut is silly. she had her weave removed. who cares.

Don't like Rihanna but I have to admit she looks gorgeous with that short hair. And it was nice to see her a little more covered up than usual at the VMAs.
