Sawyer, Stephanopoulos Leave DNC For Funeral Of Robin Roberts' Mother

Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos left the Democratic national convention on Wednesday to attend the funeral of Robin Roberts' mother Lucimarian.

Lucimarian Roberts died last Thursday at the age of 88. Robin left "Good Morning America" one day ahead of her planned medical leave in order to be with her ailing mother, and was with her when she passed.

Sawyer and Stephanopoulos left Charlotte, North Carolina for the funeral in Mississippi on Wednesday morning. David Muir filled in for Sawyer at the beginning of ABC News' coverage of the DNC that evening. Sawyer was back with an update on Roberts and her family later on in the broadcast.

Hundreds of people paid their respects to Lucimarian at the visitation service on Tuesday. "Good Morning America" anchors Sam Champion, Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott were also there.

This is an especially difficult time for Roberts, who has been preparing to receive a bone marrow transplant from her sister. The "GMA" co-host was recently diagnosed with MDS, a rare blood and bone marrow disorder, after her battle with breast cancer.

CORRECTION: Lucimarian Roberts passed away last Thursday, not Friday as the article originally stated.
