Damian Lewis On Barack Obama: 'He's Really Every Bit The American Guy'

'Homeland' Star Praises Barack Obama For Being 'American Guy'

"Homeland" star Damian Lewis has some kind words for President Barack Obama.

"He’s a charming, impressive, powerful," Lewis told THR.com, before adding that anyone who thinks Obama isn't a John Wayne-type is sorely mistaken.

"He’s much more alpha male in the room than you think he’s going to be. When he first came into power," he said. "All the dissenters were keen to point out that he looked good in a suit and he was a lawyer and he drank cappuccino, and where was the American guy? He’s really every bit the American guy, when you’re with him."

The endorsement from Lewis should delight the president as he's a huge fan of the Showtime series "Homeland." Back in December, Obama told People that "Homeland" was one of his favorite shows. Obama also "requested and received" four sets of "Homeland" Season 1 DVDs from Showtime, according to a report from THR.

Lewis went to the White House on March 14 of this year for a state dinner in honor of British prime minster David Cameron.

"I did sort of joke with him that the creators of the show had asked him to give us a heads up on any foreign policy moves so that we could just stay current with Season 2," Lewis told TV Guide at the time. "And he looked me straight in the eye and said, 'I'll be sure to do that.' Didn't bat an eyelid. I found he had a great sense of humor."
