Jennifer Hudson Says She's Forgiven Her Family's Murderer On 'Oprah's Next Chapter' (VIDEO)

Jennifer Hudson Tells Oprah She's Forgiven Her Family's Murderer

Oprah Winfrey sat down with former "American Idol" star turned Oscar-winner when Jennifer Hudson was her guest on "Oprah's Next Chapter." Hudson has also won Grammy, Golden Globe, SAG and NAACP Image awards, among many others. But her rocket to success was jarred in October 2008 when her mother, brother and nephew were murdered.

In May 2012, Hudson's sister's estranged ex-husband was convicted of the killings. William Balfour was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for the murders.

Hudson told Winfrey that she has found forgiveness for Balfour. "You never had a chance," she said of the murderer. "Had you had the love my mother gave us, or the background some have, then you would’ve stood a chance."

Hudson was joined by her sister on the show, where they shared that their bond is stronger than ever. Winfrey tweeted, "It's remarkable you were never angry with your sister. amazing grace for sure."

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post incorrectly referred to William Balfour as Darnell Donerson, Hudson's late mother. We deeply regret the error.
