New Gotye Album Not Happening Just Yet, Says Gotye

Gotye Doesn't Have New Music Ready

If Gotye isn't careful, he really could become somebody that you used to know. (Pause here for groans.)

In an interview with Billboard.com at the MTV Video Music Awards, the Belgium-born musician said he had yet to start working on a follow-up to the 2011 album "Making Mirrors."

"I haven't started writing anything. I'm ready to write new stuff," Gotye said. The singer said his whirlwind year has felt like "three or four," but that hasn't bothered him too much.

"I'm actually still feeling quite fresh -- I'm ready to write new stuff," he said. "This for me has been a fast experience of putting an album out."

2012 has been a massive year for Gotye. His single, "Somebody That I Used To Know," spent eight weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and spawned countless parodies, including one on "Saturday Night Live," when the singer was the musical guest.

"It's lovely to have a big hit song," he told Billboard. Of course, that doesn't mean Gotye is happy with all those spoofs.

"Sometimes I feel like I'm a bit sick of it," he told NME. "My inbox, on any given day, has at least five covers or parodies or remixes of it and there's only so many times you can listen to the one song."
