New York Fashion Week Backstage Beauty: Skull Cap Side Chignons At Nicholas K Spring 2013 (PHOTO)

Don't Throw Out Your Ripped Pantyhose

Nicholas K designer-siblings Nicholas and Christopher Kunz kicked off New York Fashion Week with their nomad-influenced spring 2013 collection, and the models' hair has convinced us to book our next spa trip in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Inspiration: 1970s futuristic film, "Soylent Green"

Hair: To complement the desert-inspired makeup and loose, muted layers in Nicholas K's spring collection, TIGI global creative director Nick Irwin created side chignons (topped with ash-colored skull caps) with a do-it-yourself feel. To get this look, prep hair with Catwalk by TIGI Session Series Sea Salt Spray and diffuse on medium heat. Next, spray Sleek Mystique Look-Lock Hairspray to ensure a smooth, frizz-free crown. Pull hair into a side ponytail behind the ear and secure with an elastic holder. Separate the pony into two sections, spraying with Finishing Hairspray and then loosely tie the sections into a knot at the base of the head. Fasten with another elastic tie through the middle of the knot to create dimension. Finish by diffusing the ends of the hair and pulling out some pieces from the ponytail to achieve the perfect undone look.
