In an effort to curb obesity in New York City, the Board of Health officially approved Mayor Bloomberg's plan to ban the sale of large, sugary drinks on Thursday.
Health advocates applauded the measure as a major step in reducing rates of diabetes and other diseases linked to over-consumption.
Others dismissed the new law as an example of a nanny-state government stepping on personal freedoms.
Some, in jest, alluded to the doomed days of prohibition.
