From the MacBook Air to the iPhone 5, lead designer Jony Ive has lent his brainpower to creating the products that have made Apple one of the world's most powerful consumer electronics brands.
Some might even call Ive the reigning king of industrial designers, and every king needs a castle.
The 45-year-old, who was knighted in May, recently bought a five-story, $17 million mansion in San Francisco complete with a courtyard, six fireplaces and a sweeping view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, Mashable notes.

Built in 1927 by Willis Polk & Co. architects, the 7,274-square-foot Pacific Heights mansion was listed for $25 million when it went on the market in February. According to its Sotheby's listing, many of the mansion's period details remain intact, including the oak flooring, panelling and antique fixtures.
Willis Polk & Co. was the firm responsible for designing San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts, a monumental structure done in Beaux-Artes style (which can also be seen from the house). One look at these photos, particularly the interiors, reveal an appreciation for finer things that probably won't be lost on someone who has made a career out of merging function and beauty.
