Rachel Maddow Warns Republicans About Defending Mitt Romney's Libya Response (VIDEO)

Rachel Maddow was flabbergasted that some Republicans are defending Mitt Romney's bungled response to the attack on the U.S. embassy in Libya.

The GOP candidate is embroiled in controversy after slamming what he claimed was the White House's response to the deadly attack at the U.S. consulate in Libya. In fact, the statement he criticized came from the American embassy in Cairo, and was released prior to the attacks. Romney's response has been condemned by politicians and pundits on the right and left.

Maddow appeared outraged at Romney's response on Thursday, and cited some of the scathing criticism that Romney has received. "But then the Republican party I guess just decided overnight that he is their candidate, so they better get on board with him...?" she said.

Maddow ticked off the Republicans who have defended Romney, including include John McCain, Rob Portman, Pete Hoekstra, Jon Kyl, John Bolton and Donald Rumsfeld. She played a clip of Portman admitting that he did not know that the statement from the U.S. embassy in Egypt came before the deadly attacks.

Maddow said Republicans might be trying to get their candidate to the White House, but they are doing so at personal risk. She warned, "all of these guys have committed themselves and their reputations forever to siding with a guy whose campaign previewed a Mitt Romney presidency in which an American ambassador is murdered and an American embassy is attacked and the role of the U.S. president... would be to rush to the microphone before the attack is even over... you're on his side now."
