Stephen Colbert had a bone to pick with USA Today over its new logo on Tuesday night.
The newspaper recently unveiled a redesign, including a blue "ball" icon for its new logo. The different sections have ball icons that contain graphics reflecting the day's top stories.
On Tuesday, Colbert joked that he was relieved that the newspaper was "focusing their energy where it counts." He quoted publisher Larry Kramer, who had said that the new logo would be as "dynamic as the news itself."
"And ladies and gentlemen, did they deliver!" Colbert exclaimed, unveiling what he called a "blue circle." "Serendipitously, this is also a pie chart showing the percentage of people confused by the USA Today's new logo."
He highlighted some of the ball graphics on the front page of the other sections, and speculated that the design would be perfect for a host of news stories, including those about pizza, bagels and Cee Lo Green's head.
