Care Harbor is gearing up to host another massive four-day free clinic in Los Angeles next week.
The healthcare non-profit, which has provided free medical, dental and vision care to thousands of Angelenos for the past four years, will distribute wristband tickets for the clinic Monday, Sept. 24.
Patients can choose which day they want to attend the clinic, which runs from Sept. 27-30, as well as prioritize which kind of care they need the most. Depending on the clinic's resources that day, patients may be able to get more than one kind of service -- but nothing is guaranteed beyond the first type they receive.
Patients will also get the opportunity to learn more about how the Affordable Care Act will impact their lives. Because thousands of Angelenos are expected to benefit from either the public health insurance exchange or expanded medicare, LA Care Health Plan's CEO Howard Kahn said this could be the clinic's most important year yet. LA Care Health Plan is a presenting sponsor of Care Harbor's free clinic.
In 2011, 5,000 uninsured or underinsured Angelenos received free services from 3,200 medical professional volunteers. And just like last year's clinic, there's still a huge demand for dental services and thus dental volunteers.
"If you have a toothache, there's no ER to go to," said Care Harbor president Don Manelli to the Associated Press last year. "About 60 percent ask for dental care."

HOW: Patients can specify which of the days they want to attend the free health clinic. Distributed wristbands will act as tickets for each day, and they can't be removed without being destroyed. That means everyone who wants to receive free health care must also line up to receive the wrist band on Sept. 24.
Caregivers will be able to receive wristbands on behalf of their elderly patients, and parents can take wristbands on behalf of young children. The caregivers and parents who receive wristbands must accompany patients and children to the free clinic later on that week.
