Five Different And Oh-So-Girly Ways To Wear A Varsity Jacket

The sporty trend came down the spring 2012 runways with force. We saw baseball hats, varsity jackets and all manner of nylon anoraks at designers like Rag & Bone, Altuzarra and Alexander Wang. We've even seen style darling Taylor Swift out and about in the athletic staple, and Kim Kardashian was just spotted front row at New York Fashion Week wearing a black-and-white topper.

So when I was in Santa Fe on a family trip and I spotted a red suede baseball jacket in a thrift shop, I was thrilled (even more so because it's vintage Roberto Cavalli and was a steal at $50). But once I got the topper home, I found myself at an impasse, not really sure how to wear it. The jacket is rather blousy and the sleeves are full, so it makes quite a statement. As a result, it has hung in my closet for close to a year now. When I saw editors at New York Fashion Week wearing baseball jackets, I decided to take the trend out for a spin myself. Determined to make the jacket work, I headed to one of my favorite spots for styling inspiration: Pinterest.

There, I found countless examples of cool girls wearing varsity jackets, all in their own way. They say imitation is the purest form of flattery, right? Here's hoping that old adage is true.

Click through to see how I wore my baseball jacket in five different ways, plus a few shoppable options.
